We specify OEM Abodu hardware when it’s available through their California distribution channel, but we’ve also validated aftermarket equivalents from Truth Hardware and Hoppe that meet the same AAMA/WDMA performance grade at lower lead time. The gotcha: Abodu’s 2022-2023 production run used a narrower 2-1/4 inch door jamb depth than the current 2-5/8 inch spec. Order the wrong replacement, and the strike plate lands proud of the frame. Signs Your Abodu New Detached ADU Is Failing

• Door won’t latch without shoulder pressure. The Santa Clarita Valley’s clay-heavy soils shift with seasonal moisture changes, and Abodu units on piers or stem walls can settle differentially. The door frame torques, misaligning the multipoint lock. We see this most in Canyon Country lots east of Soledad Canyon Road, where the terrain slopes and the cut-fill line sits close to the foundation.
• Window weeps staining the exterior cladding below. Abodu windows rely on a continuous head flashing that seals against the rainscreen. When the butyl tape dries in our 100-degree Julys, water finds the gap and exits through the weep channels. Left alone, it wets the ZIP System sheathing and shows as bubbled paint in year three or four.
• HVAC vent rattles when the unit cycles. The mini-split line set passes through a grommeted hole in the Abodu wall panel. The grommet hardens, the line vibrates, and the wall cavity becomes a drum. In Santa Clarita’s dust-heavy environment, this also pulls attic particulate into the conditioned space.
• Skylight diffusers yellowing or cracking. Abodu specs a fixed skylight with a polycarbonate diffuser. Our UV index runs 9+ for six months annually.
